Campaign of 1852 Newspaper
Campaign Jacksonian (Pontiac, MI). Oct. 16, 1852.
This Democratic campaign newspaper supported the election of
Franklin Pierce as President. Campaign newspapers were issued only
during elections and are ephemeral in nature. This particular one is a
new discovery not held in any institution or recorded in William Miles'
People's Voice: an Annotated Bibliography of American Presidential
Campaign Newspapers 1828-1984 (New York: Greenwood Press, 1987).

"One day I am visited by a collector of ordination sermons; the next, by
a collector of 4th of July orations; then comes a collector of geography;
another wants religious newspapers; another wants every book printed in
New York before 1700. I accommodate myself to all; for I want every thing
and collect every thing, and I have more zeal than the whole of them: and
in this way I am kept very busy."
