IV. Miscellaneous Unidentified
Pen and Ink Drawings. ca. 1880-1900.
Arranged in a single alphabetical list by illustrator, if known;
by title, if no illustrator is known; by subject, if no illustrator or
title are known. Includes significant holdings of drawings by Enos B.
Comstock, Frances B. Comstock, Palmer Cox, Georgina A. Davis, "Grosvenor,"
Anthony Hochstein, Justin H. Howard, Sarah Noble Ives, H.F. Nedeham,
Victor Renwick, "Valmotte," and Ida Waugh. Also contains drawings for The
Night Before Christmas, along with creative portrayals of Santa Claus. In
addition there are engravings and proofs produced by other publishing
houses and collected by McLoughlin Bros., Inc., including portraits of
nineteenth- and early twentieth-century political leaders, and prints for
a Bible history.
Largely unidentified watercolor drawings bearing a McLoughlin
office identification number in the lower left corner. Arranged
numerically. The bulk of the drawings feature scenes of children at play.
Includes several drawings for The Hind in the Wood, imitating the style of
Walter Crane. Also contains several drawings portraying Biblical and
Shakespearean scenes.
Unsigned watercolor drawings. Most of them feature children.
Includes sets of drawings for unidentified titles. Features
drawings of children and landscapes. Some of the individual drawings bear
handwritten captions.
