Title

Struwelpeter [Stewelpeter]

Description

Heinrich Hoffmann’s Slovenly Peter (also called Struwwelpeter or Struwel-Peter) stories were translated from German for the American market around 1850. McLoughlin Brothers issued multiple versions of Hoffmann’s cautionary tales, as well as new stories told in a similar style. This volume combines both traditional stories and newer texts. Even during its heyday, McLoughlin Brothers did not overlook demand for traditional stories and rhymes like Struwel-Peter and Mother Goose. These books were constantly updated and enhanced to appeal to changing tastes.
