Title

Game of the Visit of Santa Claus

Description

McLoughlin continued to capitalize on the Christmas market in 1898 by issuing Game of the Visit of Santa Claus. The game is designed so that players receive gifts from Santa as he flies in his sleigh around the board. The winner is the player who amasses the most gifts while having Santa skip over their opponents. This game celebrates the growing consumerism of the holiday and also surreptitiously conveys Santa’s seal of approval for McLoughlin Brothers products, many of which are, not surprisingly, featured as the gifts delivered by St. Nick during the game.
The gift of Herbert H. Hosmer in memory of John Greene Chandler, 1985
