Description

The Two Admirals was another of Cooper's sea tales, this one taking place on the English Channel during the Jacobite uprising of 1745. The first edition of The Two Admirals was published by Lea & Blanchard in 1842, and Cooper had spent ten days in January and February of that year correcting proofs. Shortly after the publication of the American edition in April 1842, Cooper brought the Albany editor Thurlow Weed to court for libel. Weed spent his spare time in court that May reading The Two Admirals, which he refused to admit he like until he wrote his autobiography many years later.
