Cooper was living in Paris when he wrote and corrected proof for The Bravo, a novel about an Italian assassin. Despite complications with sending and receiving manuscript copy and proofs between London and Philadelphia, Bentley published The Bravo on October 15, 1831. Carey & Lea had an American edition, seen here, published by the end of November. The manuscript of the novel, which Cooper sent to London from his home in Paris, is now owned by AAS. A portion of the manuscript may be seen in the "Manuscript to Print" section of this website.
