Manuscripts

Manuscript materials digitized for this project were selected based on their direct relationship to Nipmuc lands and Nipmuc people. Scanned materials include town proprietors’ documents, deeds, genealogical notes, accounts and receipts, and Commissioners of the Indians records for the state of Massachusetts. Proper nouns used to organize several collections within the American Antiquarian Society’s filing system have been replaced here with Nipmuc ones. AAS collection names are included in brackets within the item title.

Not all materials from each AAS collection were scanned, as not all materials were directly related to Indigenous history. Instead, particular folders or volumes from within each larger collection were chosen, and content has been uploaded for viewing with its specific location included (Hassanamesit, box 1, folder 1, for example). To view scanned material, navigate to the “about this manuscript collection” page for each set of documents.
