AAS has collected over four and a half million books, pamphlets, newspapers, graphics, and manuscripts and continues to add to these holdings through active acquisitions guided by our collection development policy.
Most of the American Antiquarian Society’s collection materials can be located and requested through their records in the catalog. In addition to providing the sorts of access common to most online catalogs (author, title, subject, and keyword access), the general catalog supports a host of specialized indexes, providing access by genre, by series, by illustrator, by printed, publisher, and bookseller, by place, date, and language of publication, in large part because of the work of the North American Imprints Program (NAIP).
The collection materials that remain uncataloged are listed among Collections Not in the General Catalog. Digital finding aids and inventories support the use of collections not yet included in the general library catalog.
