Academic research fellowship applicants may come from such fields as history, literature, American studies, political science, art history, music history, and others relating to America before 1900. Fellows are selected on the basis of the applicant's scholarly qualifications, the scholarly significance or importance of the project, and the appropriateness of the proposed study to the Society's collections.
The academic research fellowship year begins on June 1 and ends on May 31.
Fellowship Categories
- Four to Twelve Month Residential Academic Research Fellowships
Intended for scholars beyond the doctorate. - One to Two Month Residential Academic Research Fellowships
Open to doctoral candidates; postdoctoral scholars; and independent researchers working on a scholarly project served by AAS collections. - Three Month Virtual Academic Research Fellowships
Open to doctoral candidates; postdoctoral scholars; and independent researchers working on a scholarly project served by AAS collections.
