1939-2023
Michael Ginsberg died on February 26, 2023. Considered the senior dealer of Americana in the United States, Ginsberg was in the trade for more than six decades, beginning in 1957. He served as a mentor to generations of newer book dealers, as well as a leader in the American Booksellers Association of America. His long career in the trade included early work with Japanese booksellers and selling to the Beinecke collection of Western Americana and other institutions. Recently Ginsberg gave AAS an important piece of Western Americana in memory of William Reese: Verein Zum Schutze Deutscher Einwanderer in Texas (circa 1846), a promotional for the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas.
