Chris Loker is an author of children’s books and books about children’s literature. She was born and raised in California, where she graduated from Stanford University and attended the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She worked for twenty-five years in corporate Human Resources with firms such as Levi Strauss and Co., Bank of America, and Universal Studios Hollywood. Her last corporate position was Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Charles Schwab and Co. Loker then joined the world of rare books in 2002, first as a bookseller specializing in children’s literature, then as the curator of the Grolier Club’s exhibition “One Hundred Books Famous in Children’s Literature.” Loker is also the author of the book A Shimmer of Joy: One Hundred Children’s Picture Books in America. She lives outside San Francisco with her husband, antiquarian bookseller and AAS member John Windle. Currently she is working on a volume about the history of the book for children.
