Righteous Empire: The Protestant Experience in America

Martin E. Marty is the Fairfax M. Cone Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at the University of Chicago, where he taught chiefly in the Divinity School for thirty-five years. His study, which appeared as part of a series, Two Centuries of American Life, commemorating the United States Bicentennial, was awarded the National Book Award in Philosophy and Religion in 1972.
