Sally Ripley diary, 1799-1801

Sally Ripley (1785- ) was the daughter of Jerome Ripley of Greenfield, Mass. He was a merchant and civic and social leader in the town. In 1812 Sally married Charles Stearns (1781-1818), a merchant from Shelburne, Mass. They had four children.

The diary contains daily entries recording her activities (particularly visits made and visitors received). From 1799 to 1801 the diary includes many of Sally's school recitations in history, geography, astronomy, etc. The diary also contains a description of the memorial services held in Deerfield, Mass., following the death of George Washington and also describes trips to Boston to visit relatives.

There are copies of several skits performed during Sally's school days, 1799 to 1801.
