The Juvenile Muse was published in New York in 1795. It includes short stories, poems, reflections, and commentaries on contemporary events by a group of friends who referred to themselves as "a society of youths." Some of the articles inlcude "On Liberty," "An Epitaph," "On Death," and "On War." The contributors write under pseudonyms, many of Greek origin, that include Lycorus, Leander, and Astolpho. Only one person is named fully, Simon Sharpley, in a letter to the editor included in the volume. Some of the contributors mention New York in their writings' signature.
