The Dranesville Times was probably published by students of Dranesville Academy in Dranesville, Fairfax County, Va. during 1853. On the cover of vol. 1 no. 1, the students write that the paper is "edited by an Association of Litter-rat-i." Most of the articles are sitirical and humorous in nature, including critiques on the railroads and steamboats, marriage, fellow newspapers and magazines such as the "Belmont Gazette," and local news. They also include puzzles, poems, local notices, and lists of new books and music. Their collaboration with the "Belmont Gazette" is extensively talked about in the final issue. The editor makes fun of the other paper by writing that "an affair of honor will probably come off soon between the military general of the Belmont Gazette & the steam boat & railroad storekeeper of our city - we believe a lady is the cause." There are a few drawings in black ink included throughout the various issues.
