The Rising Sun was published in Waterbury, New Haven County, Conn. during 1853. It includes articles on women's rights, nature, among others. Some of the titles include "Spirit Rappings," "Surprising Development," and "Ornithological." There are alos local notices, including for sale, wanted, marriages, and deaths, advertisements for local businesses, lists of new books and music, and poems. In their introduction, they mention many of the other amateur newspapers published at the time, such as "The Olive Branch," "The Mattatuck Gazette," "The Hornet's Nest," "The Agus," and "The Belmont Gazette." They also had a close partnership with the editor of "The Belmont Gazette," featuring some of their articles and notices. The editor and contributors are unnamed.
