The Anomaly

The Anomaly is a handwritten newspaper edited by Bradford Academy students Mary Green (ca. 1833- ), Sarah Kimball (ca. 1834- ), Anne M. Sawyer (ca. 1840- ), and Anne M. Chase (ca. 1831- ) from 1854 to 1855. It was published semi-monthly and included poems, puzzles, short stories and tales, advertisements, moralistic and intellectual reflections, and correspondence to the editors.

The newspaper contains articles about children's rights, nature, women's education, world news, especially about the Crimean War, and fashion. There's a section from a travelling correspondent who visited the straits of Gibraltar and the city of Florence. Throughout the issues, there are corrections and other handwritten notes added in pencil, likely made by the teachers.
