The Olethian

The Olethian was published by students of Candia, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, likely from the District #1 Schoolhouse, around 1861. It includes poems, moralistic and religious reflections and articles, puzzles, and advertisements. One of the articles mentions the skirmishes of the Civil War and Gen. Fremont's proclamation. A "special notice" is included which informs readers of the formation of the "Anti-poke-your-nose-into-other-peoples-business Society," with "Mrs. Think-no-evil" as its president. The cover of the newspaper has a drawing in ink of a flying dove holding an olive branch and a small poem underneath. The paper is held together by a light blue ribbon.
