Our Chip Basket was edited by Ellen Harriet Sargent (1845-1937) and published by the students of School District No. 4 in Hopkinton, Merrimack County, N.H. during 1862. They include articles on the seasons of spring and summer, the snowy weather, city life, animals, local travel in N.H. and a trip to Virginia, and school life and education. They also included poems, correspondence, anecdotes, notices, and puzzles. One of the letters, addressed to an uncle, describes the life of a Civil War soldier traveling and celebrating Thanksgiving.
