The Portlandville Observer is a manuscript newspaper published in Portlandville, Otsego County, New York during 1863. It includes political articles, anecdotes, and correspodence. The political articles were in support of the Union Army but against abolition, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the Lincoln administration. There's an anecdote about a Dr. G.B. Bishop who supposedly treated a sick woman with Cannabis Indica extract. The woman consumed a bottle of extract a day and allegedly died after three days. The editress and most of the contributors are unnamed, except for Etoile, Mary, and Kand Berteo.
