The Monthly Chronicle was published by Pratt, Cuttler & Company in 1865 in Worcester, Worcester County, Mass. It was written by Edward R. Pratt, when he was 14 years old. He charged 1/2 cent per month or 3 cents for a six month subscription. Illustrations are included, which were likely cut and pasted from other sources. It includes articles, conundrums, charades, short stories, poems, and moralistic reflections, as well as an index at the end with the titles of all the sections. Some of the poem and article titles include "The Saucy Butterfly," "The First Snow Fall," "The Brave Daughter," and "History of Agesilaus."
Edward Read Pratt was born on May 1, 1851 in Worcester, Worcester County, Mass. to Summer and Abbie Curtis [Read] Pratt. He graduated from Harvard University in 1873. He died on October 31, 1880 and was buried at the Worcester Rural Cemetery.
