The Casket is a handwritten newspaper published by an unnamed editress in Portlandville, Otsego County, New York during 1871.
It was aligned with the temperance movement, including selected poetry from other papers, such as "The Temperance Patriot." In their introduction, they state that "The Casket is 'not dead but speaketh' and is published semimonthly its sentiments are, No Rum. No Tobacco. No Profanity." It also includes short stories and tales, puzzles, moralistic and religious reflections, correspondence, and articles denouncing drinking alcohol, especially whiskey and wine, and smoking tobacco.
