The Souvenir was published and edited by Wentworth and Lilyputt in Rivermouth and Sunboro, believed to be Portsmouth, New Hampshire, during 1874. It is stated in the newspaper that its pages were divided equally between the two editors, with the first one by Lilyputt and the second one by Wentworth. Lilyputt includes a lengthy "Tally" section, which contains diary entries about visiting Boston and Lynn, picnics, chowder parties, rowing in various rivers, and having her pictures taken, among other activities. She also includes a rhymes section, an explanation from the printer about the quality of the newspaper, local notices, and various drawings. Wentworth writes about his disappointment with his first picnic party, stating that it was a "picnic where the ladies, too weak to support themselves, required the aid of the gentlemen's shoulder, in which they reclined most gracefully. While the enjoyment of the gentlemen, consisted in lying at full length on the grass with their heads on the laps of the young ladies." However, he writes that his subsequent picnic parties were very enjoyable, spending much time with friends. He also writes about his travel anecdotes in New England.
