Le Bijou

Le Bijou is a printed amateur newspaper edited by Herbert A. Clark (1857 or 1858-1921), an African American amateur journalist from Cincinnati. Clarke's sister, Consuelo Clark (1860-1910, later Consuelo Clark Stewart), wrote much of the content (see for example, vol. 1, no. 3). His other sister Ernestine Clark (1855-1928, later Ernestine Clark Nesbit) also wrote some pieces; cf. v. 2. no. 3, p. 2. Herbert A. Clark became a professional teacher and later an accountant. Consuelo Clark became a homeopathic physician. Ernestine Clark became a music teacher.

The Clarks' father was Peter Humphries Clark (1829-1925). He was an associate of Frederick Douglass, edited the Herald of Freedom, and worked to establish free public schools for African-Americans.
