Analysis of the Pictorial Text Inscribed on Two Palenque Tablets.

The article presents an in-depth examination into the writing system of the ancient Mayan civilization through analysis of the pictographs found within the Codices Cortes and Tro. Introductory details are given noting the multiple levels of scholarship which seek to illustrate the Mayan calendar and writing system. The author outlines a pictorial understanding of the Mayan hieroglyphic set, presents a series of associated conceptual objects to connect to the symbols, and discusses the ritualistic connotations of each in turn.
