Our Dealings With the Indians.

The author focuses on the history of relations between the government of the American British colonies and later the U.S. government and the Indians of North America. He argues that the nineteenth century is the "century of shame" regarding government policies towards the Indians. He discusses subjects including the misconduct of Indian Agents and others employed to aid Indians; the forced removal of Indians from their traditional lands; U.S. government policies regarding signed treaties; and the mismanagement of public welfare programs designed to help Indians. The author argues for the support of education, legal reforms, and the implementation of infrastructure on Indian reservations to help "civilize" the Indians.
