What Caused the Deportation of the Acadians?

The article discusses the reasons for the deportation of Acadians from Canada. The author notes allegations that historian Francis Parkman misrepresented the Acadians in his work and suggest that priests and missionaries from the Roman Church incited rebellion among Acadians and provided weapons to Indians after Great Britain gained control of Acadia from France through the Treaty of Utrecht. The persecution of Protestants by the French is noted. British authorities attempted to prevent Acadians in British territory from relocating to Prince Edward Island. After many Acadians refused to take an oath of allegiance to England, they were eventually deported from Acadia to other British colonies by Charles Lawrence, former governor of Acadia.
