The article presents an exploration into the Mascoutin Indian bands of 17th-century Canada and the United States. References to the tribe are cited from the early explorations of Samuel de Champlain in 1615 to the significant interactions between the group and the Jesuit missionaries Nicolas Perrot and Claude Jean Allouez in the 1680 and 1690s. Accounts are given briefly describing the identity of the tribe in comparison to their neighbors, citing several wars and conflicts between them. The migrations of the people are also documented, pointing out their dispersion throughout Wisconsin, Michigan and New York.
