Some Notes Upon the Genesis of the Power Loom in Worcester County.

The article presents information on the development of the power loom in Worcester County, Massachusetts. The author discusses how at the beginning of the 19th century the typical New England village family wore clothing that was manufactured on the farm with the use of the hand loom. The author discusses the use of these early hand looms and spinning wheels. Later, machine driven textile machinery began to be developed and the cotton trade developed along with these technological advances. Some of the driving forces were the invention of the cotton gin by Eli Whitney and the development of cotton carding and spinning mechanisms by Robert and Alexander Barr.
