The article presents an examination into the history of Land Bank mortgages in Worcester County, Massachusetts. The first of these mortgages issued by the Land Bank company were dispersed in 1740 and they were issued in decreasing amounts in the early months of 1741. The article notes that there was government opposition to these loans and it examines how and why this opposition arose. Letters providing information on the nature of the opposition of the government for the Land Bank mortgages are presented.
