The article presents an exploration into 17th century English Church history, the conditions of its religious freedoms, and the life of the Puritan writer Jeremy Taylor. The life and works of Taylor are reviewed as an example of the larger religious conditions of England during his lifetime. Taylor's alternative favor and persecution under different governments are described. A list of his major works is provided along with discussion of his personality. The views of Taylor on religious tolerance and theological and political engagement are reviewed and analyzed.
