The article profiles attorney and politician Henry Hitchcock. Hitchcock, the grandson of former U.S. district judge Samuel Hitchcock and son of former Alabama district attorney Henry Hitchcock, served as an assistant teacher at Worcester Classical and English High School. He later became an attorney in Missouri and served as a newspaper editor before joining the U.S. Republican Party. As a delegate to the Missouri Convention, he supported the emancipation of slaves and served in the Union Army under general William Tecumseh Sherman. He helped establish the St. Louis Law School and the American Bar Association, a legal organization. He was also a member of the American Antiquarian Society (AAS).
