The article presents letters written by former U.S. diplomat and inventor Benjamin Franklin to Joseph Banks, former president of the Royal Society of London, England, in which he describes his observations of balloon flights, including the use of hydrogen to achieve flight, the transportation of animals using a balloon and a manned balloon flight.
