Report of the Council.

A report of the Council of the American Antiquarian Society (AAS) is presented. The author discusses increases in the acquisition of newspapers preceding the U.S. Civil War by the AAS Library and how it led to the creation of a newspaper bibliography to assist scholars by offering a checklist of papers in the society's collection. The deaths of former AAS members such as Reuben Gold Thwaites, John Green, and Don Gleason Hill are noted. Katharine Allen, daughter of former AAS member Charles Allen, made a bequest to the society. Efforts to raise funds for binding and other AAS activities are discussed.
