The article presents an exploration into the establishment of the printing press on the island of Jamaica during the colonial era. The history of the first hundred years of publishing in that territory is reviewed up to the 1820. Major subjects addressed include the creation of the first newspaper in the late 1740s, the release of the first almanac in the early 1780s, and the use of the printing press in government committee paperwork and for electoral documentation.
