Greater New England in the Middle of the Nineteenth Century.

The article explores the history of social changes in New England during the nineteenth century. The author examines changes related to population development and the social, political, and economic aspects of the regions colonized in the U.S. West. Factors of immigration and emigrations are discussed with respect to other aspects such as steam production, development of factory and industrialization, and the building of railroads. Other topics include pioneer life, provincialism in politics, and replacement of the household with the factory as the unit and source of manufacturing.
