The article presents an examination into the library of American statesmen Benjamin Franklin. The article draws upon letters by Franklin in order to better understand how and when he developed his extensive library. The article also includes the writings of others to attest to the breadth of his library. It provides information on how he distributed his library including details on which scholarly societies, family member and friends he left books and collections to. The article also presents information on several volumes titled "Miscellanies on America" that were discovered in the library of the Massachusetts Historical Society.
