Elihu Burritt--Friend of Mankind.

An essay profiling social activist Elihu Burritt is presented. The author discusses how the American Antiquarian Society (AAS) aided in Burritt's linguisitic studies and chronicles Burritt's development from blacksmith to peace activist. Burritt established the newspaper "The Christian Citizen" to promote peace and oppose slavery and helped resolve a border dispute in Oregon. He later visited England and Ireland and promoted low postage rates.
