The Antigua Press and Benjamin Mecom, 1748-1765.

The article explores the publishing career of printer Benjamin Mecom, nephew to postmaster Benjamin Franklin. Emphasis is given to Mecom's work for newspapers in St. John's, Antigua, New Haven, Connecticut, and Boston, Massachusetts. The removal of a printing press from Antigua is examined. Other topics include book auctions, the economic aspects of newspaper publishing, rent payments, and Mecom's accruing of debts and financial difficulties.
