The article presents a speech by historian Edward Herbert Thompson, delivered at a meeting of the American Antiquarian Society in Boston, Massachusetts, April 17, 1929, in which he discussed archaeological ruins in the Yucatan region of Mexico, research on Mayan civilization, and dredging operations.
