Bibliography of the French Newspapers and Periodicals of Louisiana.

The article presents an exploration into the history of journalism in 19th-century Louisiana. Notes are given highlighting the prominence of French newspapers in New Orleans and throughout the state during the century and several categories and trends are identified, along with profiles of several specific periodicals. Discussion is given contextualizing the subcultures of Frenchmen and Francophones in the region during the 19th-century. Major genres examined include literary periodicals of the 1840s, medical magazines of the 1850s, and Reconstruction journalism after the Civil War.
