Sidney George Fisher--The Personality of a Diarist.

Biographical sketch of Fisher (1809-71), descendant of an outstanding Philadelphia shipping merchant family, graduate of Dickinson College in 1828, lawyer who never practiced law, farmer, author, and diarist. Wrote numerous articles and books, including 'The Law of the Territories' (1859), 'The Laws of Race as Connected with Slavery' (1860), and 'The Trial of the Constitution' (1862). Compiled a 70-volume diary (1834-71), the most complete and most revealing by a Philadelphian; covers personal life and lives of friends, but also includes valuable commentary on public affairs.
