Richard Harrison Shryock.

Richard Harrison Shryock, American historian of medicine, was born in Philadelphia and educated at several universities. His numerous research activities were interrupted for military service during World Wars I and II. He joined the American Antiquarian Society in 1947, where his activities were well received and widely respected. He continued his researches and published regularly until his death in 1972.
