Reproduces and comments on drawings made for the enlarging of the First Parish meetinghouse in Charlestown, Massachusetts, between 1803 and 1804. Charles Bulfinch's first drawings for this project were revolutionary, suggesting a circular alteration. He later repeated the neoclassical oval in other designs of country houses for friends and relatives. Primary and secondary sources; 6 illus., 7 notes.
