Born into Delaware's du Pont family, Lammot du Pont Copeland became an influential business and banking leader. Copeland supported various educational and philanthropic organizations - particularly those active in the fields of Americana, historical technology, and horticulture - through Longwood Gardens, the Eleutherian Mills-Hagley Foundation, and the Henry Francis du Pont Winterthur Museum.
