Irving Lowens.

Irving Lowens was a music critic, librarian, bibliographer, and historian of American music who conducted his studies outside the academic world. For much of his life he was an air traffic controller, but devoted spare time to a study of early American sacred music. He later became sound recordings librarian at the Library of Congress, music critic for the 'Washington Evening Star,' and associate director of the Peabody Institute.
