A Comment on Mr. Tanselle's Paper.

Responds to G. Thomas Tansell's article, "The Bibliography and Textual Study of American Books" in this issue of the 'Proceedings of the American Antiquarian Society.' There is no ideal standard in writing the history of books, though the researcher must remain suspicious of the sources. Finding the appropriate method for a specific task should be the standard.
