Cotton Mather, the Christian Philosopher, and the Classics.

'The Christian Philosopher' was Cotton Mather's most important writing on science, and (with other publications) helped reinvigorate the classical idea that God revealed himself in both nature and scripture. Mather argued that experimental philosophy was an incentive to religion, thereby leading the dissemination of Newtonian science in British America. Discusses Mather's education in classical and Christian antiquity and its influence on the preparation of this volume in 1715.
