John Daniel Cushing.

John Daniel Cushing was from an old New England family and became an outstanding historian of colonial America. After a short stint at Old Sturbridge Village, he moved to the Massachusetts Historical Society, where he became librarian. He was an astute bibliographer, and edited a series on colonial laws, a publication that quickly became the standard for the field. He died in 1987.
