Broadside Ballads of Boston, 1813: The Isaiah Thomas Collection.

Prints an interim report on a project to publish the Isaiah Thomas Ballad Collection held by the American Antiquarian Society. This is a three-volume collection of 365 New England songs, ballads, and hymns and 30 prose texts. They span the years from the American Revolution through the War of 1812. This article examines the background to Thomas's work, how he assembled his collection, which he donated to the Society in 1814, and the history of ballad-collecting and documentation.
